This painting was inspired by my daughter Charis.

She did this drawing of a giant balloon, and I was so taken by it for some reason. I could see the painting in my head. A girl, being pulled way up into the sky, unsure if she was enjoying it or scared out of her mind, but certain that no matter what, she was not going to let go.

And the balloon? The balloon was happy. He was calm. He wasn’t sure where the wind would take him, but he knew it was going to be good.

I think the balloon symbolizes our dreams. We take a risk when we decide to figure out what desires are buried in our hearts, the desires that God planted uniquely within us. It’s a risk to hold onto those desires as they start to lift us off the ground and away from what feels safe. But at some point, when we’ve held onto our dreams and they’ve taken us so far, it’s more of a risk to let go of the balloon than to keep right on holding onto it. So we hold on and continue to be taken up, up and away.

Keep holding onto your dreams! It’s worth it. Even when you’re unsure.

I’m this girl. Thanks for the encouragement to chase (or, at least, HOLD ON TO) the dream. This is a big week for me in this area. Like you’ve said before…I’m not sure if I’m flying or falling, but I sure feel FREE.
so cool.
