Here’s the feedback I received about books and scriptures that speak to getting our approval from God rather than from Man. Thanks to everyone who responded. I hope this is helpful to some of you:
Scriptures
Psalm 23, 25:15, 46:10, 139, 100:3, 118:8, 141:8
Jeremiah 17:5-8
Luke 9:62
John 6:27
Ephesians 2:10
Galatians 1:10
Hebrews 12:1
Knowing Who I am in Christ Scriptures
Books
Approval Addiction by Joyce Meyer
Traveling Light: Releasing the Burdens You Were Never Intended to Bear by Max Lucado
Victory Over Darkness by Neal Anderson
The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan
Abba’s Child by Brennan Manning
Pleasing People: How not to be an “approval junkie” by Lou Priolo (*I started reading this one…scored a 58 on the quiz in the beginning of the book. 69 and under means you most likely have an addiction to pleasing others. Yikes!)
Healing Grace: Finding a Freedom from the Performance Trap by David A. Seamands
What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” by Lysa TerKeurst (*I just finished reading this book a couple weeks ago. It was sent to me by my friend Valerie. It’s fantastic. Let me share the section from the book that most impacted me. It fits in perfect with the topic of this blog post:
“Grace has two fierce foes – acceptance and rejection…Acceptance requires much of me. He seems so enticing with his offerings of compliments and big promises. But though he is fun for a moment, soon my mind is flooded with concerns of being able to continue to impress him. I am quickly overwhelmed with pondering my interactions with others and keeping score on the table of comparison…
“Rejection demands I pull back and shy away from the obedience for which my soul longs. His whispered questions of ‘What if?’ and ‘What do they think of you?’ linger in my mind and influence my actions and reactions…
“In my flesh I desire the praises of Acceptance and the excuses of Rejection.”

Thanks for putting this together Mandy. I bookmarked some of the scriptures already and I’m going to look into some of those books. Especially the one with the quiz in it. Sounds insightful.
Great list Mandy – thanks for collating the information – I know it’s gonna help loads of people (starting with me!)
i needed this today. thanks.
Thanks for posting all of this, Mandy. I’m thinking I’m going to be returning to this post several times in the next couple weeks during my quiet times. God’s not through with me yet!
