Kendall Payne Inspires Me

I think it would be a shame if I didn’t share my most favorite music right now, especially since I’m finding myself listening to it every time I sit down to do something creative.

I discovered Kendall Payne about 8 years ago when I got the opportunity to do a phone interview with her for a magazine article I was writing for Breakaway Magazine. I loved her music, but especially loved her lyrics.

I listened to that CD a lot and then, as tends to happen, I forgot about her.

Fast forward to 3 years or so ago, when I attended a conference in Nashville with my husband. One of the artists that performed while we were there was Kendall. I became reacquainted with her, and I MADE myself introduce myself and tell her how much I enjoyed her music and how inspirational her lyrics were to me.

Side note – she’s tall.

And then a few months ago I started getting into buying music off of iTunes. I remembered Kendall and wondered if she had a new CD out. I was excited to find Paper Skin.

Instead of her usual acoustic guitar, she’s done some amazing arrangements with piano. A beautiful fresh sound, with the same old wonderfully amazing Kendall lyrics. She’s so real. I love that.

Then in October I was watching Grey’s Anatomy and was shocked to hear one of Kendall’s songs playing. So cool to hear her music on that show!

Check out these lyrics:
“I am meeting myself and I am liking what I see.
I am not afraid anymore, not afraid to be bored, not afraid to be me.

“The truth can break our hearts
that’s when it starts
to set us free.”

It’s a good song for my 2008 word “free” and for Sarah’s Best of Me challenge I’m participating in.
