Exactly one year ago today we pulled into California, minus one vehicle, minus all our belongings, minus our confidence. Knowing only this: we needed to be here, for whatever reason.
A year later, all I can say is that we’ve been changed. It has not been an easy road. My husband has not yet had a paycheck, some days we do not feel settled in our own skin, and just last week Tony was saying he feels all spun about, but my…my how we’ve changed. We are not like we were when we came here. We are better versions of ourself. We found stuff deep inside us we didn’t know existed, and we’ve grown as a family, tighter, closer, more dependent on God, more verbally open with God (He hears it all – both the good and the bad), more confident there is something going on with our lives, a much greater purpose.
There are millions of little pieces of our life that seem broken and scattered now, but we know that God will grab all those pieces together at just the right time. We are being changed. We have been changed, and I now know that tough times must be walked through, not avoided, not run from, not ignored. It is through them that character is built.
I have NO clue what one more year will bring. But bring it on. If I am this much changed a year from now, as I am from this past year, I will embrace that. Life gets sweeter with living it. I am thankful I still have a lot of growing to do. Life would be boring otherwise.

Well, I for one, am glad that you guys are here.
Isn’t it amazing how things work out and how you can’t see it as it’s happening, but once you’re through and looking back, it ends up making perfect sense. You’ll be at that point sooner than you think. You’re so inspiring, being so open and honest about your struggles and your relationship with God and I really admire that.
A very well said post. We too are glad you guys are here. I can’t even imagine taking the leap of faith to come out here like you guys did.
Amazing post. Love your honesty and openness. God is good! “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 I hope you don’t mind me sharing that verse…I just love God’s promises.
